Mr T Chenyika joins debate!
My view is The Split have had a very disabling effect on the MDC's capability to dethrone Zanu PF in the 2008 votes 'if the Vote take place'. In my view the Unity will be for the better in two ways !
1. it will naturally strengthen the MDC for future elections 'by future i mean beyond 2008'. Unity now is too late for purposes of threatening Zanu PF's hold on power. I know people are yeaning for Change but that should not take away realism. MDC have spent time fighting each other and if they all turn their guns towards Zanu PF now it will take a couple of years for any meaningfull results to be realised.
2. The only realsitic thing which can come from MDC Unification is the effect it will have outside the the MDC circles. By this i mean that if the Unity take place before the Zanu PF Congress or if there is likeliness of Unity before then this can result in Progressive forces within Zanu PF forcing total transformation of the Party in view of the 'MDC Threat coming thruogh Unity'. The change in Zanu PF may be good for Demoracy as this will mark the beginning of a changed political landscape conducive to democracy. The transformed Zanu PF may want to do things differently from the current hardliners who call the shorts. Any change in the ruling party will be important in country's fight for democracy. In my view it will be naive to think that events within the MDC are the only ones to shape the democratic future of the Country. The Ruling party remain very relevant and very bullish in its approach. MDC Perhaps should form an intelligence wing which will work closely with progressive forces with Zanu PF
Those are my thoughts
Regards.
