DEMO AT THE ZIM EMBASSY IN PRETORIA WEDNESDAY, 29th AUGUST, 2007 09.00HRS!

On Friday, 17th August, 2007 we were supposed to have a Demo at the Zim Embassy in Pretoria.

When I arrived a bit earlier (at about 09.30hrs), someone at the Embassy phoned the SA Police saying I, Rev Mufaro Stig Hove, had come to bomb the Embassy and that I had threatened to do so a couple of times before.

Two Police vehicles then came to pick me up and I was interrogated in a very friendly and relaxed manner for a couple of hours in their Offices.

The Demo then did not take place!

But tomorrow (29th August, 2007) the Demo is on!

Two buses have been hired to carry people to a point near the Embassy where we will then march carrying our placards to the Embassy!

The march will begin at 09.00hrs and the Demo, according to the Police Clearance letter, should be over by 11.00hrs.

The bottom line is the country of Zimbabwe where a teacher or a nurse gets the equivalent of R120 per month.

The bottom line is the empty hospitals where the places of Health are empty simply because there are neither medicines nor medical workers.

The bottom line is the Education System where there are neither books nor teachers because Mr Thabo Mbeki's South Africa is actually on a campaign to woe Zim teachers to fill its own Education System!

THE MBEKI AND SADC POSITION A LOAD OF IRRESPONSIBLE RUBBISH!

Well, Mr Thabo Mbeki, The State President of South Africa has issued a lengthy statement (LINK) where he has shown the whole world where he and SADC stand as far as the Zimbabwean Crisis is concerned.

Firstly, that the Elections were heavily rigged (LINK!!!) is not an issue at all!

Secondly, that thousands of MDC members were physically assasulted and hundreds others murdered by State Agents(LINK!!!) is similarly not an issue at all!

Thirdly, the fact that Robert Mugabe and ZANU-PF were discarded by the Electorate BEFORE (NB BEFORE) the Infamous Land Invasions is not a material matter at all to Mbeki and SADC!

Fourthly, the fact that Mr Mugabe has presided over the very ZANU-PF for over 27 years without allowing the very ZANU-PF a chance to elect or re-elect him by the democratic Secret Ballot is completely irrelevant to Mr Thabo Mbeki and the various SADC "Excellencies."

Fifthly, the fact that Mugabe was clearly rejected by the Electorate in the controversial 2002 Presidential Election is not part of substance as far as Thabo Mbeki and SADC are concerned!

Knowing Mr Mugabe as we do, he would have excitedly gone through Tsvangirai's Election Petitions without any delay if he was sure he had won them by any margin!

His only statement at the moment is: "That Election Petition is 'frivolous' and 'vexatious'." What exactly does that mean???

We who were part of the rigging machinery know why and how those Elections were rigged!

I, Rev Mufaro Stig Hove, can give a delailed report of how WE (repeat) WE rigged those Elections.

This brings us to the question of the way forward as far as the Zimbabwean crisis is concerned.

Of major concern is for the "Opposition Forces" to clearly define themselves.

1. What exactly is it that they are opposing? They desperatelt need to clearly define their "bottom line."

Is it Robert Mugabe as a person meaning therefore that he must go at all costs regardless of the hurdles that continue to mount including the clear message from Thabo Mbeki and SADC? Please make that absolutely clear so that we who have vowed to support the Democratic Forces can see how we can go forward in support.

2.Can there be some National Vision which accommodates ZANU-PF and Robert Mugabe?

I, personally, know that Robert Mugabe's very survival depends on his remaining in that Office (even illegitimately as he is doing at the moment.)

So he has intelligently intertwined his fate with that of millions to completely confuse the original issues.

Some of us need to hear what the general position of the Democratic Forces is.

The whole nation is on its kneesat this very momentas we pursue our various "Quiet Diplomacies" etc!

I shouldn't describe the situation on the ground because any serious person knows that there is no economy to talk about in Zimbabwe at the moment!

The talk by President Mwanawasa that the problems of Zimbabwe are being exaggerated must be swiftly dismissed as coming from a timid lunatic who cannot stand and defend his earlier statement that Zimbabwe was a sinking Titanic!

Mbeki's hope that SADC on its own can rescue Zimbabwe is irresponsible rubbish!

Utter deliberate rubbish!

Even mighty South Africa can never close all outside doors and depend on its SADC neighbours only! Why does Mbeki not try it for his country just today??

Mbeki thinks their position as SADC is the only "Revolutionary and African" position and all others are mere "sell-outs" etc.

The heavy challenge on the shoulders of the Decratic Forces is to clearly and swiftly dissociate themselves from that dangerous perpective (of being viewed as 'sell-outs'.).

Of course its said 'Politics is a dirty game' but never ever relax when powerful leaders join the despicably evil Robert Mugabe in propagating that stinking propaganda.

The tragedy of the Democratic Forces is that they do not seek the help of serious patriots to assist in the "clearing of the air" as far as their position is concerned.

Lets identify each other and close ranks as true patriots and complement each other's efforts to counter the heavy Propaganda of Mugabe now joined clearly by Mbeki and Company!

The Democratic Forces have continued doing a pilgrimage to a clear crook called Thabo Mbeki!

Mbeki wants us to believe that South Africa will not play the "big brother" yet he completely ignores the cries of the very Zimbabweans when they describe issues that are not related to the land issue! When did Zimbabweans start complaining about Mugabe encouraging "corruption" among his "chosen few"? Long before Mugabe's decision to pursue the "rectification of the Historical Land Imbalances."

Vigilantes have launched their own campaign to stop thousands of impoverished Zimbabweans crossing the border illegally into South Africa.

The influx is fuelled by poverty and desperation.

But some in South Africa are so alarmed by their government's apparent failure to prevent the wave of illegal immigration that they are taking action themselves.

Sky News joined a group of white farmers as they patrolled the border between Africa's richest nation - and a country on the brink of collapse.

The men, who are using vehicles designed for game hunting to track down illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe, are the self declared enforcers of South Africa's immigration laws.

"They are coming into our land, breaking our fences and killing our animals, we can't afford it, and the security forces are doing nothing so we have to act," Andre Nienaber told me.

It's not long before they identify their first prey. A group of about eight men and women are wandering by the roadside, they scatter as soon as the farmers stop to question them, and the white men jump out of their pick up trucks to give chase.

The men are too fast for them, but they corner one of the women. She looks terrified as they drive one of the trucks towards her, pinning her against a fence.

Her hands are bound with a plastic tie and, together with her friend she's loaded into the back of the pick up. One of the farmers warns them not to try to run away again: "If you do there'll be trouble," he said.

As the hunt goes on the women, crouching on the floor of the truck, tell me they had come to South Africa to try to find work so they can support their children back home in Zimbabwe.

"I have four children and she has two," Fungai Makoni said.

Further down the road, the farmers spot another group. This time they meekly climb into the back of another pick up, without even attempting to escape. They had been walking for two days.

"We had to leave", Tacaran Mkundele said, his exhaustion obvious. "In Zimbabwe we cannot survive. The bread costs 55 thousand bucks."

Inflation is now close to 5 thousand per cent in Zimbabwe, fuelling the rush over the border. The farmers are collecting scores of Zimbabweans every day and no one seems to question their authority - even when they demand to see the identification of some black South Africans who just happen to be walking near the border.

Escapees are rounded up by civilians

"What would you say to those people who say you're just a bunch of vigilantes?" I asked Gideon Meiring, the leader of the farmers' patrol.

"No one dares say that", he told me leaning against a pick up truck full of his passive captives. "If they are honest people should get down on their knees and thank us."

The police, accused by the farmers of doing little to stem the flood of illegal Zimbabweans, seem to have little choice but to co-operate with the operation.

They collect the captives and take them to holding centres ready for deportation.

Among them we found Joas Mande, 61. Like the others, his hands were bound and his eyes reflected the despair of a father who would be returning to his family empty handed.

"I have two sons who want to go to University," he told me. "Now there will be no-one to support them. I have failed."

Most of the Zimbabweans said the situation in their homeland was so bad that they had no choice but to try to sneak into South Africa again.

But the farmers will be looking for them. South Africa is already home to an estimated three million illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe and they say the country has to put its own interests first.

The Challenges facing the MDC may be a blessing in disguise!

I am very much aware that millions of Zimbabweans and various "friends" of Zimbabwe are perturbed and some really angry with the developments in the MDC especially of late!

Those that have developed "BP" (High Blood Pressure) with these latest developments are those that have a single vision:

The MDC must unite (or re-unite) and then remove ZANU-PF from power and that looks so simple!

I may stand alone but I see these latest depressing developments as a blessing in disguise and all free-thinkers must take this opportunity to ask these very important questions:

1. Are we just either ZANU-PF or MDC and nothing more?

2. Can we never see ourselves as Zimbabweans above Political Party differences?

3. What do the two "factions" of the MDC have as a way forward as far as the land issue is concerned? Come on, don't say "we will cross that bridge when we come to it!"

Fellow Zimbabweans please lets take this opportunity to do real "soul-searching."

I could write a longer submission but I challenge you to think about ourselves as a Nation!

We the undersigned Zimbabwe Youth Movements in South Africa and individuals in solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe hereby petition the South African government through the University of Wits Chancellor to expel ZANU (PF) beneficiaries sons and daughters and relatives studying at the institution.

Since 1991 when the ZANU (PF) government privatized institutions of higher learning students at colleges and universities have found the going very tough for them because they are attending lectures on empty stomach.

Today the military has closed the University of Zimbabwe thus denying our brothers and sisters a bright and better future

Preliminary Remarks:

Im very sure many of you have noticed that I haven't written anything myself for some time.

Of course I have written a lot so far: "IS ROBERT MUGABE THE MASTER-ASSASSIN?",    "THE RIGGING OF ZIM ELECTIONS",    "WHY ZIMBABWEANS DO NOT REBEL",   "THE THOUGHTS AND MEMORIES OF A FORMER ZANU_PF CADRE" etc.

So why have I not been writing of late?

The reasons are numerous:

1.... Too many things have been happening of late and Ive been busy creating links from my own blogs to articles of interest relevant to our tragic Zim Situation.

2.....I've written a lot before and I've not been getting any challenges and any person can testify that it is very much depressing to talk for months in a room full of people but without any responses whether of agreement or of contradiction. I'm encouraged, though, by the numbers of visitors that come to my site many of them having been led by other bloggers etc from their various sites.
Then

3..... I didn't think I would really have to write about The Hon Thabo Mbeki hoping that he would quickly move away from his dubious so-called "Quiet Diplomacy" and therefore rendering my intended writings irrelevant or, as they say, "overtaken by events."
Now that the "Quiet Diplomacy" seems to "rage on" more vigorously, I can proceed to put pen down to paper.

WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS "QUIET DIPLOMACY" ALL ABOUT???

I'm sure we are aware that there should be and definitely exists a form of brotherhood within the Revolutionary Movements that have successfully unshackled their peoples from the yoke of racism and settler colonialism.

This brotherhood should be extending not only through the length and breadth of Africa but should extend to the so-called Diaspora where the black man has been getting various "raw deals" eg Jamaica , The United States of America etc.

The liberation movements of the then Rhodesia benefited from the already liberated "zones" like Zambia , Tanzania , Ghana etc. The ZANLA and ZIPRA forces owe a lot to the leaderships of the OAU and the FRONTLINE STATES.

So when Mugabe came into power in Zimbabwe , he immediately joined the FRONTLINE STATES which added their weight to the need for the liberation of South West Africa and South Africa itself.

Without doubt Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe was not found wanting in this regard!

He would announce how much he was contributing from his own salary towards funds that would assist in the AZANIAN AND NAMIBIAN cause.

It would impossible for me to enumerate how saboteurs from the then racist South Africa did various acts to destabilize the newly independent State of Zimbabwe. So without doubt the South Africans and the Namibians owe a lot to Cde Mugabe and Zimbabwe (among other countries).

BUT LETS TAKE A CORNER NOW:

It did not escape the South Africans that Cde Robert Mugabe was rather autocratic and had a somewhat "rough side" to his style of management.

As usual, one does not concentrate on the faults of his neighbour , more so his senior.

Who didn't know that "The Ngwazi" Dr Kamuzu Banda openly boasted that threw his real or perceived "enemies" into the crocodile infested rivers?

Who didn't know that the late Malawian strongman used to send "hit squads" into Eastern Zambia to kidnap and even assassinate his "opponents."

What did Kaunda say about that?

What did anyone say about "The Ngwazi"?

We don't need to ask about Cde Mugabe because Mugabe always disappointed us by going to Malawi and spending far more days on "State Visits" than he spent even in Mozambique where he had received real physical, spiritual and material refuge to the ZANLA Liberation Fighters.

I will not dwell on the real strange admiration that Cde Mugabe had of the despicably evil so called "NGWAZI."

What I'm trying to highlight is the lack of words to at least condemn a fellow President when he de-humanizes his own peoples.

The ANC and PAC know very well how Dr Joshua Nkomo was tormented and hounded in a new Zimbabwe that he had lived all his life struggling to liberate.

Even now they don't need to read books and publications about the "GUKURAHUNDI MASSACRES" of the early 80s. They were in Bulawayo when it all happened.

Moreso, the Ndebeles who suffered more are really descendants of the Zulus who ran away under Lobengula from another war-monger Tshaka in the 19th Century.

The Xhosas (who are relatives of Cde Nelson Mandela and Cde Thabo Mbeki) are also of a significant number in the area affected by "GUKURAHUNDI".

These Xhosas came as servants of the white man during the period of the PIONEER COLUMN and other later expeditions.

I'm trying to highlight that Zimbabwe , to the South Africans , is not a country that is far removed like, say, Somalia , the DRC, or Ethiopia .

Zimbabwe is really like an extension of South Africa .

So where is the problem?

Does South Africa lack compassion about what's happening just across the river? But surely even the Limpopo crocodiles have been heard saying "Thank God for the Zim crisis and thank God more for President Mbeki's Quiet Diplomacy!"

Does Mbeki not know the magnitude of the problem?

Lets go slowly over this one!

There is no doubt that Mugabe had great joy to see Namibia and subsequently South Africa/Azania getting their Independence .

The very serious problem that emerged was when Cde Nelson Mandela's "glory" overshadowed that of Cde Robert Mugabe. No serious Political Analyst should ever under-estimate this issue.

Mugabe is a very sensitive person who does not forgive any-one who even attempts (obviously through no fault of his) to get a greater standing ovation than his.

THAT IS ROBERT MUGABE'S REAL "FAULT LINE!!!"

Everything else we can describe eg assassinations etc come from that fault-line! Its nothing he can do about it himself especially at this late stage in his life. Only lessons we must learn for the future.

In Zimbabwe itself, no politician can get more attention than him. All who speak must refer to him and say they have been sent to convey whatever "goodies" etc that they will be donating even personally! At major events eg at National Funerals only Cde Mugabe will speak! Mugabe is the BE ALL in ZANU-PF and in ZIMBABWE !

And he stupidly enjoys that situation!

All the intellectuals eg Cde Nathan Shamuyarira have been reduced to making small statements mainly "rubber-stamping" decisions that will have been really made by one man, ROBERT MUGABE!

Remember that Dr Shamuyarira left Government around 1998 saying he would concentrate on writing a book about Robert Mugabe. But he also said he wasn't happy about the welfare of the people as early as at that time. But the trillion dollar question (Zim dollars, of course) is where is the book 9 nine years down the line?

Ladies and Gentlemen we are dealing with a demagogue who has literally "urinated' into the very revolution that we were supposed to be very proud of! Everyone is not of any value except Cde Mugabe himself! He gives value to people and withdraws it when he feels like!

The very people that set him up where he is at the moment and who unwillingly prop him up at that elevated position have no power to remove him! Those that tried died in mysterious car accidents or are aliveYES but completely "immobilized."

Now Thabo Mbeki knows all this and is one of the most intelligent people in South Africa . Cde Thabo Mbeki sits in front of a Computer and not only "surfs" the Internet but he also writes letters himself personally which are posted to the ANC WEBSITE and I get a copy in my "IN-BOX" every Friday afternoon without fail!

Again, my question is: WHAT WENT WRONG BETWEEN THE ZIM STRONGMAN AND THE SOUTH AFRICAN POLITICIANS?

When the late dictator Laurent Kabila of the DRC requested assistance in the mid-90s, Mugabe asked Cde Nelson Mandela if he could also contribute troops but Cde Nelson Mandela declined. I will not try and analyse why Mandela could not commit himself but knowing Mugabe as we do, that was completely unforgivable.

Mugabe weeps inside and blood oozes from his heart to other internal organs and he gets really depressed when "snubbed."

When the revered Nobel Prize winner the Archbishop Desmond Tutu asked Mugabe to please release those jailed mercenaries, Mugabe treated him as a Primary School Headmaster would treat a very naughty school boy.

During the farm invasions of 2000 onwards, the South African envoy, the High Commissioner himself was nearly killed when the violent war veterans mistook him for some MDC official at a farm to the north of CHINHOYI.

During the 2002 Elections, South African Observer Mission members were severely assaulted when ZANU-PF thugs mistook them for MDC Officials since they were having some meetings with MDC Officials.

So to tell everyone the truth, there is nothing that CDe Thabo Mbeki doesn't know about the Zim story!

In fact, he himself once languished in Mugabe's jail and may write a book about that after Mugabe's departure from Office or expiry (whichever comes first.)

SO AS CDE WILF MBANGA ONCE ASKED, "WHY MBEKI?????"

Here are my own humble views:

Cde Mbeki just wants Mugabe to have the longest rope possible and let the world watch how the fool will use it!
Cde Mbeki does not want to have any of Mugabe's blood on his hands.

Mugabe must have the luxury and privileged of hanging himself.

But above all, Mbeki is a very seasoned intellectual.

He must know that a nation gets the best out of their situation if they liberate themselves with their own hands!

A baby is healthiest if he gets out the womb on his own!

A little chick will not survive if you break open the egg shell for it!

The little chick must use its own "muscles" to force that shell open!

The Zimbos must liberate themselves!

BUT MORE FRIGHTENING OBSERVATIONS:

MBEKI'S INCLINATIONS TOWARDS THE "MUGABE STYLES!"

Prevent the Zulus from getting into power! (Mugabe style!)

Suppress the Inquiries about the Assassination of Cde Chris Hani! (Mugabe style!)

So fellow Zimbos .....there we are!

Mr Robert Mugabe has used various evil tricks to keep himself in power since before Independence!

Robert Mugabe has assassinated all his challengers and has encouraged his Party faithfuls to harass, maime and murder his challengers!. Robert Mugabe has rode on an artificial cloud of Violence and Rigged Elections!.

Robert Mugabe has used flimsy allegations that Dr Joshua Nkomo was liaising with the then Racist South Africa in the early 80s to "topple his Government" and over-saw the gruesome killing of over 25000 mainly Ndebeles in Matebeleland and the Midlands (commonly known as the 'GUKURAHUNDI MASSACRES'.)

Robert Mugabe intimidated and harassed and even killed members of the Opposition ZIMBABWE UNITY MOVEMENT (ZUM) and Dr Patrick Kombayi had to be air-lifted to Britain for treatment after Mugabe's CIO Officer Kanengoni shot and nearly killed him.

Robert Mugabe then added salt and pepper to the injury by extended a very undeserved "PRESIDENTIAL PARDON" to the assassins!

When Dr Joshua Nkomo offered to assist in the Land Redistribution and Resettlement in the early 80s, Robert Mugabe told him he was "too old" for that Exercise yet he arranged for the CONFISCATION of the ZIPRA EX-COMBATANTS' 'NITRAM FARMS' and has not yet returned them to them 20 years after that so-called 'UNITY ACCORD' of 22 DEC , 1987.

Dear Colleagues,

The 11 ZCTU Chegutu activists who were arrested last year during the September 13 mass protests have been found not guilty of engaging in behaviour likely to cause an uprising and disturbing peace.

The 11 appeared this morning before a Chegutu Magistrate who said they had no case to answer as the State witnesses had failed to avail themselves to testify. Warrants of arrest were immediately issued against the four police officers with the Magistrate saying this should serve as a warning to other police officers that they should not just arrest and brutalize innocent citizens for the sake of doing so. He said the arresting officers should have been at the courts to testify and in the absence of any evidence, he found the 11 not guilty.

This has been one of the major scores that the ZCTU has made. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank comrades and friends who have been keenly following this case for the moral support rendered.

Meanwhile, The Worker newspaper News Editor, Bright Chibvuri is set to appear before a Plumtree Magistrate tomorrow, May 9 2007 for allegedly contravening AIPPA and practicing without accreditation. Cde Chibvuri was arrested while attending a ZCTU district orientation workshop and he was in no way there in his capacity as a journalist. he attended the workshop purely on the basis that he is a ZCTU staff member.

Tsvangirai's overture is a sobering thought

The proposition by Morgan Tsvangirai of an amnesty for Mugabe and his inner circle for the good of Zimbabwe and Zimbabweans should be hailed by all genuinely peace loving Zimbabwe. EXILED Zimbabwean journalists and researchers published a one-off issue of the banned and closed newspaper, The Daily News dedicated to covering the current state of Zimbabwe's media on Press Freedom Day.

The paper aptly named The Daily News in Exile is a six-page report of violence, repression, and struggle in the troubled country.

Focussing mainly on the Zanu PF government's clamp down on freedom of expression, Geoffrey Nyarota (founder and former editor-in-chief of the The Daily News and now editor of the online paper - thezimbabwetimes.com) writes about "his experience as a Zimbabwean newsman and his fears for the colleagues he was forced to leave behind."

Other contributors to the special edition are Sandra Nyaira (former political correspondent with The Daily News), Nyasha Nyakunu, (Research and Information Officer for the Media Institute of Southern Africa) and Simeon Mawanza, researcher on Zimbabwe with Amnesty International.

The edition tells the story of The Daily News, from its founding in 1999 up to the time it stopped publishing on February 6 2004.

When it eventually closed in 2004, it had risen to become the nation's leading independent news source, despite the bombing of its printing press, the arrest of its staff, the occupation of its offices by police, and constant harassment by state monitors.

The Daily News in Exilecarries the slogan "Telling It Like It Is For World Press Freedom Day" (May 3). It carries detailed reports, statistics, editorials, cartoons, and photographs that recount recent and historical press freedom violations in Zimbabwe.

The paper was published by the Amnesty International Irish Section, and is written by Geoffrey Nyarota (the founder and former editor-in-chief of The Daily News), Sandra Nyaira (a correpondent for The Daily News), and researchers Nyasha Nyakunu and Simeon Mawanza.

I may be seeking publicity, I don't know but the real truth is:

Its a despicable shame that a finished man of 83 is excited to stand next year when he is 84!

It's good to hear from you after a long while.

Why are you talking about Blair? I was very specifically arguing about why we shouldn't re-invent Tsvangirai.

When I read your letter I realised that you are frustrated because it seems I do not tow your line as you expect me to, as you said, "I've tried my best to show you". As I have always said Radical, do not force people to accept your ideas. People will always have their views on issues. It's not a scandal to disagree. If I am guilty of having a passion for criticising Tsvangirai (which is based on sound facts) then it's equally okay for you to spill out your passion against President Mugabe. No one condemns you as you do to other people when they hold different opinions on these matters. Its sad that you do not realise the simple fact that you are as passionate for Mugabe and yet you try and stand up to admonish me. Isn't that hypocritical?

You say, "Tsvangirai may be as ugly or as dull or whatever any intellectual like yourself may label him but he is our only hope!" That's your problem. Because you see him as your only hope then you do not want him to stand scrutiny. I am sure you wouldn't want to have a president who has not been scrutinised. If you want, then fine, but I do not, hence my scrutiny of Tsvangirai.

You say, "I started writing myself hoping characters like you could see the picture!" That's the problem. You were so convinced in your mind that you would go out, tell people your story and hope that they would consume it passively. No Radical. There are so many pictures out there and even if we see your picture, we might decide to change it for us to accept it.

You say, "THE STORY IS MUCH BIGGER THAN YOUR PROGRAMMED INTELLECTUAL MIND SEEMS TO GRASP!" You assume that I am programmed, well fine. And you are not? I am surprised why you would even waste your time talking to programmed minds? Are you really going to attempt to waste your time talking to programmed minds? You never cease to amaze!

You say, "I love to be "corrected" where I am wrong!" defensive, in the know how and very confrontational".
I wonder why you put corrected in quotes? Maybe you are suggesting that you are never wrong.

"THE ONLY WAY FORWARD IS THE CONVENING OF A TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMISSION LIKE THE ONE THAT WAS DONE HERE IN RSA WHERE I AM AT THE MOMENT!" Why do you think that the mere convening of this body would end all our problems? It beats me. Or you are trying to say this commission might be one way to deal with a certain specific issue?

A correspondent for The Zimbabwean based in Harare suspects that he has been the victim of an elaborate Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) dirty trick in a bid to exonerate Mugabe from the blame for Gukurahundi massacres.
Two weeks ago The Zimbabwean published an interview with a person it believed to be Conjwayo saying Super Zapu had also been responsible. Kevin Woods, leader of the group imprisoned with Conjwayo, immediately refuted this story.
This week lawyers for Conjwayo issued a statement that neither he nor his family had spoken to the press since his release last year. (See P 2)
It is suspected that CIO officers used a hoax call through The Zimbabwean's SMS feedback line, misrepresenting themselves as Conjwayo. The caller claimed to be calling from Bulawayo and requested a face-to-face exclusive interview in Bulawayo.
Our reporter was unable to travel at short notice and the interview was conducted over the phone, with the caller claiming to be Conjwayo and narrating intricate details about the Gukurahundi genocide, when 25,000 people were massacred, most of them by 5 Brigade.
The CIO has planted false information on newspapers as part of its dirty tricks campaign in the past. This hoax would seem to fit with the overall brief of the CIO to absolve Mugabe from his guilt in the genocide, for which many critics have vowed he will one day stand trial. - Staff reporter

I never said so!

All I said was Tsvangirai's Election Petitions are "frivolous and vexatious."

I also pleaded with all patriots to "recognize" me as the Executive President.

I am the only person who can keep this country of Zimbabwe together!

If I removed myself from the top seat, the country will degenerate into chaos (racialism, tribalism, regionalism and all the negatives you can think of!)

Now we are in this whole mess because you simply refused to do the obvious- JUST RECOGNIZE ME. PERIOD!

Do you honestly think Tsvangirai can run this country?

I'm very disappointed with you, my fellow countrymen!

Running a country is a very complicated, delicate task!

The most stupid thing is to allow a demagogue like Robert Gabriel to decide for everybody who to give value to and who to despise and persecute etc etc!

Remember when Teurai Ropa Nhongo (Amai Joice Mujuru) was ommitted from a Cabinet Reshufle in the early 80s?

Robert was asked at a heated ZANU-PF Meeting at her home town why she had been excluded!

He correctly answered and said:

" The time for including individuals just to honour the role they played in the Liberation Struggle is over! We are now considering the special skills each person has so we can now build our country!"

A Women's League Member stood up and said, "Chef zvamaita tazviona. Isu kuno tava kusara tichiita yedu ZANU! Musachidzoka kuno!(Boss we have understood what you have done. We are now remaining creating our own ZANU here! Don't come back again here!)"

Robert immediately appointed Teurai Ropa as Governor and that was the time when Governors were then "uplifted" from being Deputy Ministers to full Ministers complete with Mercedes Benz cars. Just to "appease" the Mighty Teurai Ropa!

(Before that they were equivalent to Deputy Ministers driving the smaller "504"s.)

Now the same controversial person is Vice President!

My question is:

WHO GIVES VALUE OR WITHDRAWS VALUE IN ZIMBABWE?

53. In retrospect, I now believe that I and ZAPU were deceived and cheated by you and your party when you talked of unity, reconciliation, peace and security. I now honestly and sincerely believe that when you invited us to take part in your government you believed that we would reject your offer and set ourselves up in strong opposition to you and thereby label us disgruntled rejected plotters.

55. It is now obvious to me that when you demoted me from the Ministry of Home Affairs which you knew was negotiated for a purpose at the time you invited us to take part in your government; that while you knew that we felt it was necessary for us to take part in one of the security ministries (Defence or Home Affairs) so that the former ZIPRA men drafted into the ZNA and ZRP may feel confident, thereby solidify both the army and the police, you deliberately took that action. It is clear you wanted us to pull out of your government at that time so as to destabilize the army and the police, create dissidents out of the deserting ZIPRA men and then call us plotters against your government.

57. When you announced the confiscation of ZAPU and Nitram properties, property belonging to Companies of individual ZAPU members and to me and my family, you said it was because all these properties were acquired for hiding arms. Now that it is known no arms were found on any property other than the two farms belonging to Nitram, Ascot and Hampton Farms, how do you justify the blatant and arbitrary forced acquisition of all these properties?

62. What disturbs me most, is that when you banned the companies that ran various properties and projects you said, "ZAPU had bought more than 25 farms and more than 30 business enterprises throughout the country. We had now established they were not genuine business enterprises, but places to hide military weapons to start another war at an appropriate time", (Sunday mail, 7th February, 1982). This was a deliberate distortion.

64. You deliberately gave the impression to the country that, projects on those properties were run clandestinely; and yet you knew, I had, without success, several times invited you, to visit Nijo Products, 1.2 million dollar ZAPU Composite Agricultural Project, just outside Harare. I said your visit to that particular project was important and necessary because I felt it could be used as a model for resettlement purposes.

66. You will remember when I met you in your office in August, 1982, you made known to me that the involvement of my family property Walmer Ranch, where we built our Makwe home, would be revealed in evidence during the Masuku, Dabengwa trial at the High Court. The trial has come and gone, Masuku and Dabengwa acquitted. However, I was told by a defence lawyer of a bizarre story about some military training supposed to have been conducted at Makwe Farm which was presented by the prosecution and was later unconditionally withdrawn by them without argument. You will know that our home at Makwe has been surrounded by the army and police ever since you made your announcement of the 16th February, 1982. All meaningful activity came to a complete halt and incalculable damage was done to all we were trying to do there.

69. All these schemes were in the spirit of what I had discussed with you in December, 1981. I had made it plain to you Prime Minister, when I met you in your official residence; that your Resettlement policy was a national disaster, and you agreed with me. These schemes were meant to present practical approach models, to both rural and peri-urban resettlement, that would embrace everybody and not just a few who are said to 'qualify'.

71. What baffles me even more, is that, you said all the above when you knew that less than 2 months prior to your Marondera meeting, I had offered myself to take over your Ministry of Lands and Resettleme nt in an effort to assist you and through you, the country to make a success of its most vital development programme. You turned down my offer, saying I was too old to handle that Ministry, however, you said you would invite me to be one of the members of a resettlement Ministerial Committee you were about to institute. To you all this meant plotting.
